Engineering students in Karnataka urge VTU to postpone exams

Thousands of first-semester engineering students, pursuing studies at Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), have urged the university authorities to postpone the examinations scheduled to be held from April 19 to May 3. Students have started a campaign on Twitter with the hashtag #savevtustudents.

According to the students, the university has not taken any measures to trim the syllabus despite the pandemic and hurdles to accessing online and offline classes.

What students say?

“This is too early for us to appear for exams as the syllabus has not been completed,”

“At least, let the university cut the syllabus considering the pandemic. We also urge the university to postpone the exams as the Covid-19 cases are increasing,”

Twitter Movement  #savevtustudents

Uniquota Education's video announcing the Twitter movement went viral on April 15th. Twitter is being flooded with #savevtustudents and has got support from the NSUI leader Shri Anvith Kateel

However, a senior official of the university said the exam would be held as scheduled. Colleges have been directed to follow the SOP strictly and sanitize classrooms after every session. “Arrangements for thermal scanning and washing of hands will be made. All safety protocols will be followed during the exam,” said the official.

Engineering colleges that are doubling as exam centers have been asked to organize separate classrooms for students who have tested positive for COVID-19. On the problem posed by the bus strike, VTU officials said they have asked colleges to provide buses for students if required.

Students are requested to keep up their preparations without wasting time.
